AUSTIN, Texas — The No. 9/10 Texas women’s basketball team suffered a tough loss at home Wednesday evening as it fell to Texas Tech, 74-61, in a Big 12 Conference tilt inside the Frank Erwin Center.

The loss snaps a seven-game win streak for the Longhorns (10-2 overall, 1-1 Big 12) and marks their first conference and home loss of the season. The Lady Raiders move to 8-5, 1-1.

UT struggled to find any offensive rhythm throughout the contest shooting a season-low 29.2 percent (21-of-72) from the floor. The Lady Raiders shot 50 percent (19-of-38) from the field.

Foul trouble also plagued the Longhorns as they committed 34 fouls compared to the 24 by Tech. Senior captain Joanne Allen-Taylor fouled out in the third quarter and sophomore DeYona Gaston fouled out in the fourth.

Texas shot 63.2 percent (12-of-19) at the free throw line in the game. Texas Tech finished at a 77.3 percent (34-of-44) mark.

The Lady Raiders outrebounded the Longhorns, 44-33. Texas held a 26-15 edge in the turnover battle.

Junior Aliyah Matharu paced the Horns offensively registering a team-high 12 points. Audrey Warren finished with 11 while Rori Harmon added 10.

Lauren Ebo led the way on the glass finishing with a team-best six rebounds.

Freshman Aaliyah Moore made her return to the court for the Horns after missing the past eight contests due to injury. She logged 19 minutes off of the bench scoring six points while bringing down a pair of rebounds.

Texas Tech was led offensively by Vivian Gray who finished with 23 points. Bre’Amber Scott added 21 points and Taylah Thomas led the team on the glass with 13 rebounds.

Texas is scheduled to return to action next Wednesday, Jan.12, as they welcome in Kansas for a Big 12 clash inside the Frank Erwin Center. Tip is slated for 7 p.m. CT and will air nationally on Longhorn Network.
